Downloading & Installing MMTTY
Here are detailed instructions on how to download MMTTY off the MM HamSoft web site and installing it. When you click on the download link as shown on Page 1 of the "Getting Started on RTTY" tutorial, you will get the standard download prompt (The File Download window shown below may look different on your computer depending on what operating system you are running). When this tutorial was updated, MMTTY version 1.65D was the newest version. It's possible there could be a later version than what is shown here.
The file you are downloading is a zipped file called MMTTY165D.zip. You can either "Open" the file or "Save" the file. The easiest way to install MMTTY is by clicking the "Open" button and allowing the program to download and open automatically in whatever program you use to extract zipped files. Or you can elect to "Save" the file which allows you to save a copy of the zipped file on your hard drive. Instructions for both methods are shown here. Choosing the "Open" Option
1. Choosing "Open" in the File Download dialog box will cause the program MMTTY165D.zip to download into your computer and automatically run the program you normally use to open zipped files. For this example, WinZip is the program used to open zipped files. When you select the "Open" option, the file will begin to download.
2. Once the file download completes, WinZip opens the zipped file MMTTY165D.zip and shows the file MMTTY165D.exe which is the executable file which installs MMTTY. At this time you can choose to extract this installation program to your hard drive if you wish. Remember, MMTTY165D is ONLY the installation program and not the actually MMTTY program.
3. To start the installation program MMTTY165D.exe, close all other applications running, then double click on the icon the left of the filename MMTTY165D.exe within WinZip as shown above. The installation will begin with the opening screen to the MMTTY Setup Wizard. Click Next and follow the instructions in the wizard.
4. In the "License Agreement" screen, you must click in "I accept the agreement" in order to proceed. The following screen is in the "Information" screen.
5. In the "Select Destination Location", it shows MMTTY will be installed in the C:\Program Files\MMTTY subdirectory. It is recommended the program be installed at this default location.
6. Continue on with the installation and choose to create a start menu folder.
7. Choose to create a desktop icon (shortcut). If you wish, you can also create a quick launch icon.
8. Click the Install button on the next screen to begin the installation and you will see the installation program extracting files. After the files have been extracted and the program is installed, you will see another information screen.
9. Click "Next" at the Information screen and you have completed the installation. At this time you have the option to Launch MMTTY. This completes the installation process.
This completes the installation process. If you need help running the program for the first time or placing a shortcut to your desk top click Next at the bottom of this page. Otherwise, go back to page 1 of the MMTTY tutorial.
1. Select the Save option if you want to save MMTTY165D.zip to your hard drive. When you choose the Save option, a Save As dialog will open. At time time, navigate to a location on your hard drive where you want to save the file. In this example, the file is being saved in a temporary directory called "Temp".
2. When you click the Save button, the program MMTTY165D.zip will download to your hard drive at the location you have selected in step 1.
3. When the file is finished downloading, you must then Run the file MMTTY165.zip by going to the Start menu, then to Run...
4. Choosing Run will open the Run window. From the Run window, select the Browse button to navigate to the location on your hard drive where you saved the file in step 1.
5. When the Browse window opens, navigate to the location on your hard drive where you save MMTTY165D.zip. Be sure to select "All Files" in the file type selection at the bottom of the Browse window.
6. When you see the zipped file MMTTY165D.zip, double click it with the mouse or click it once and hit the Open button.
7. The file name and path will then be shown in the Open box of the Run window. Click OK.
8. This opens the program in your zip extracting program, such as WinZip used in this example.
9. At this time, go back and follow the instructions starting with Step 3 of the previous section "Choosing the Open Option" by clicking here. This will complete the installation of MMTTY.
