| The American Widgeon is one of the prettiest ducks we have here in Louisiana. We don't see them too often, so it is a real treat to bag one or two of them. The last time I saw a Widgeon was a couple of years ago when Joe and I were hunting our Teal pond on the 'back' cut. A hen and drake flew over the pond and Joe shot the hen and I missed the drake. We started calling the drake and he came back around 2 or 3 times before Joe finally brought him in. I'll never forget the dedication that drake had for his mate despite the danger and ultimately joining his partner in heaven and on our dinner table. |
