Mottled Duck
The Mottled Duck is native to Louisiana, Texas and Florida. We also refer to them as Summer Ducks or Summer Mallards because we see them year around and both the male and female somewhat resemble a Mallard hen.  The Mottled Duck is also said to resemble the Pacific Black Duck, but we don't see Black Ducks here in Louisiana.  The Mottled Duck is a large duck about the size of a Mallard and are good to eat.  The best way to tell a Mottled Duck is by it's whitish belly and the purplish blue color on their wings.  The Mottled Duck was celebrated by being on the Federal Duck stamp for last year's season (see photo below).
